New Pharmaceutical Laboratory in Borehamwood

Our client, a major pharmaceutical manufacturer, aimed to convert an existing building into a three-floor production facility, with the goal of doubling their turnover. Vector Structures devised a two-storey mezzanine structure to integrate into the building, necessitating substantial modifications to the existing portal frames due to its size. The complexity was heightened by the weight of the equipment, requiring a unique structural layout that could support the heavy loads above without obstructing the laboratories below.

Additionally, the project involved extending and glazing the front portion of the building. To accomplish this, the team implemented a large steel frame structure which was designed to work harmoniously with the existing structure. It was also engineered to be as lightweight as possible, reducing the need for deep foundations.

A significant challenge was the tight deadline imposed by the client. To meet this timeframe, the design had to be completed within three weeks. On-site support from Vector Structures proved essential to address potential construction issues and prevent delays inherent in the complexity of the project.
